Nilsa’s Account of the Proposal
David had asked me earlier this week what my plans were for Saturday after work. Since I had none, he offered to make me dinner and treat me to an evening of pampering. I didn’t think anything of this since we do this type of thing for each other every now and then. The plan was for me to soak in the tub and relax while David cooked and set up everything for dinner. When I arrived, the electricity was out so the whirlpool in the tub was not working L. David wanted me to stay in his room and not come out until he said it was OK, so I ended up taking a quick shower, getting comfy and catching up on TV (which I never get to watch). The time passed quickly and David brought me a great cheese tasting course and a drink to munch on while I waited for dinner to be ready.
A couple of hours later, David called me in for dinner. The dining room table was set up beautifully with a white tablecloth and two silver heart candle holders with really cool thin pillars. Nearby candles were also lit, all off white in color. The only thing I thought was different is that David went out of his way to make this dinner really elegant. He doesn’t usually make all the candles match, etc. Everyone knows what a big candle freak David is and how he usually has a varied array of them around in all colors and styles.
I was allowed to sit, but not wander into the kitchen or family room. David made a great spicy shrimp appetizer which we had with bread. Our main course was pork tenderloin grilled and served with a peach salsa (he knows l love sweet and sour dishes). We had rice pilaf on the side. Our wine was Etude, vintage 1991. David told me this was one of the first wines he got for his wine cellar years ago, which also made me think he really went out of his way to make the night extra special.
When it came time for dessert, David told me he had a special surprise and that he needed to blindfold me and take me to the family room. I got really excited thinking he was going to put on a show and flambé a baked Alaska or something for me (knowing how much I LOVE sweets!). So he guided me into the room as I was blindfolded and sat me on the sofa. He told me to wait a few minutes. When he finally said I could take off the eye mask and look, he was there in front of me with the hugest rose bouquet, a heart shaped cake with “Will you marry me?” written on it and the ring. I asked “Are you serious?” I was really dumbfounded! I just grabbed him and hugged him and said “Of course.” That’s when it all hit me and I got emotional and started crying. We just held each other for several minutes.
David put the ring on me and it was exactly one of the cuts and settings I had indicated I liked when we drove to Melbourne, FL last November to see the Diamond Brokers David had read a lot of good reviews on. It really means a lot to me that he took the time to research diamonds and was focused on quality. I absolutely love my ring and I especially love what it signifies.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all my friends who supported my relationship with David from the early beginning, namely, Carol, Flora, Silvia, Nayda, Sussette, Pam and Rabbi Craig Ezring. You all made things much easier for us and now look where we are!
Can’t wait to see everyone at the wedding J
